Course description

All governing bodies have important statutory dueties towards pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).  This training will provide an overview of the role of the SEND Governor and provide practical tips, resources and checklists to help you carry out this role.


Training is delivered remotely by Georgina Herry, SEND Adviser for the School Effectiveness Team.  Georgina has been working in the field of SEND for many years and specialises in supporting SENDCOs in school and school leadership teams.

Training objectives

  • To help governors to understand and apply the role and responsibilities of the SEND Governor

  • To provide an overview of statutory requirements relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

  • To provide an overview of the SEND process in Hounslow

  • To help governors to understand provision for pupils with SEND

  • Share ways that governors can play an active role to monitor the effectiveness and impact of provision for children and young people with SEND
