Early Years Practitioners in Schools
Children and their families are likely to return or start your provision with increased anxiety and worries around leaving their family after such a long time in the home. Your environments will also look different to when the children left.
Debbie Brace will help us to think together about how best we can support children and their families to feel settled when they return/start nursery or reception after the crisis of Covid-19.
The session will be structured around the following questions:
· What do we mean by emotionally connected interactions and why do they help us feel settled?
· Why can emotionally connected interactions feel difficult to put into practice?
· What techniques and systems can we put in place to help us to be more consciously emotionally connected in our approach?
This will provide an insight into the variety of ways that children (and families) might show their distress through their behaviour as they make the transition back into your setting.
It will provide an opportunity to think about how to prepare for and have interactions with children and their families which provide comfort and reassurance.
It will support the creation of environments where difficult feelings can be expressed and thought about and where children can be supported to understand and regulate their own feelings and develop their own emotional literacy.
