This session is open to School Governors and Clerks.


The aim is to give an overview of the safeguarding responsibility for children, held by all who work with children and families; and to share with Governors the priorities decided upon locally by Hounslow’s Safeguarding Children Partnership.

You will have the opportunity to:

 

  • Gain understanding of the statutory duty held by all education establishments for children’s safety and welfare
  • Appreciate the local priority needs and the rationale for HSCP choosing to tackle these specific areas
  • Consider how your school might contribute to the local priorities

Code: GB/22/70 GB: New Governor Essentials - Online Training for new & recently appointed school governors

This course is in two parts, delivered via Zoonm, each lasting 90 minutes, but on the same day, with a break inbetween the morning and afternoon session. The first session will start at 10:00 - 11:30 and the second session will start at 13:00 - 14:30

iIt has been put together and will be led by governor training and consultant, Andrew Dodge, a school governor and chair himself, with experience in infant, primary, secondary and special schools, both maintained and academy.

As well as some presentation, these online sessions are very interactive including activities and group discussion.  The content is structured around the Three Core Functions of school governance described in the DfE Governance Handbook and covers everything you need to know in order to 2hit the ground running" and become an effective member of your governing body team.

You will gain all the essential information about schools and the education system including jargon-busting, types of school, categories of governor, the curriculum, assessment and Ofsted inspection.  You will explore what governors do and, equally important, what they should not do, with tips on how to maintain a strategic focus and avoid getting involved in the day-to-day, operational running of the school.

Core Function 1 - Clarity of Vision, Ethos and Strategy including self-evaluation and improvement planning.

Core Function 2 - Holding the Headteacher to Account covers the headteacher's report, interpreting data, advice on visiting the school and the sort of questions to ask when schools are operating normally. This session will also cover governors' accountability during school closure and the essentials to focus on.

Core Function 3 - Overseeing the Financial Performance of the School explores how governors ensure public money is well spent.

You will learn about governors' statutory duties and how to engage effectively with parents, pupils and staff.

Above all, the course should leave you motivated and inspired to contribute to your governing body thereby improving the eduction of the pupils at your school.

Code: CPD/21/226 Wellbeing for Education Return and Whole School Approach

Wellbeing for Education Return is nationally developed training package for education staff. The project is funded by the Department for Education and Department for Health and Social Care and has been co-developed with Health Education England, Public Health England, and NHS England and Improvement. The
Adults, children and young people alike may have suffered with their mental health and wellbeing during this pandemic. This training will support staff working in schools and colleges to respond to the additional pressures some children, young people and staff may be feeling as a direct result of the pandemic. It will focus on developing whole school wellbeing approaches, the tools to build resilience and understanding the vital components of staff wellbeing at this time.
This train the trainer model of learning will provide delegates with the framework and models to be cascaded throughout schools and colleges.

This session, focussing on wellbeing and whole school approach, is suitable for anyone working in the area of supporting mental health and wellbeing within an educational setting.
